Much ado about nothing!
by A.H. Krieg

For well over a week I have been the recipient of scores of e-mails about the Michael Newdow suite to remove "under God" from the pledge of allegiance and the judicial fools that supported his claim. Living down here in the South, and being somewhat a read neck I remain solely unimpressed by the issue. In my opinion the entire pledge should be scrapped.

Historically it is important to have a grasp of the past relating to the pledge. Frankly I think that our founding fathers would have found it to be offensive. Francis Bellany wrote the original. "I Pledge allegiance to my flag and the Republic for which it stands, one Nation Indivisible with Liberty and Justice for all."

Right off the bat there are several problems that come to mind. "The Republic"? What Republic? We ceased being a Republic when in 1913 we changed the way we elect Senators, instituted the IRS, and the Federal Reserve Act. America today is a democracy where the opinion of the majority rules with absolute certainty. We are no longer a nation based on law [The Constitution] our system is based on legal precedence as issued by our judiciary, and can and may change hourly. Then comes "one Nation Indivisible" where and how was this determined? Certainly it is not part of the Constitution or any founding document, it is in fact the pronouncement of Lincoln and is not based on fact or law. Next we have the promise of "Liberty and Justice" someone must be pulling my leg! What we in fact have is a legal system, in which anyone with sufficient funds gets off, or in which the government prosecutes to make an example, a system in which the government writes laws that are unintelligible and then selectively enforces them against any and all opponents of their mandates. A system that imprisons Martha Stewart and then manages a trial of several years for murderers and child molesters is worthless.

In 1923 some softheaded fool decided, "My flag" was offensive to foreign born Americans, being foreign born I can't imagine why, so they changed it to "The Flag of the United States". It was in 1945 that the pledge was finally adopted by congress but then in 1954 they added "Under God". So there you have it, the entire sordid story.

Michael (Num Nuts) Newdow claims he is an atheist and being so inclined finds "under God" offensive to his non-belief. Hey. Michael get a life you jerk.

To all this I want to ad that I have lived in many nations and have traveled around the world for over 60 years, and to my knowledge America is the only nation in the world outside of Nazi Germany who has or had a pledge Allegiance. As a child in the 50's when I first began my American experience in those horrible institutions called public education, I always found the pledge to be peculiar. After all I lived here whom else would I give my allegiance too?
