Response: to Wolfowitz
by A.H. Krieg

The following article is written in response to a commentary written by Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz entitled 'Rope-a-Dope in the Desert' as an excerpt from a speech he made before the Council on Foreign Relations 68th St. in New York on Jan 23/03. It was published in the April issue of The American Legion magazine.

They don't call him the "Price of Darkness" for nothing.

The article published by The American Legion Magazine written by Paul Wolfowitz, who in kinder quarters is referred to as the "Prince of Darkness" is an absolute disgrace. It is governmental propaganda in the most blatant form; it contains many errors and much falseness, I am as an army veteran and member of the Legion very disappointed with the Legion for publishing such rubbish.

1) The article in paragraph one mentions that there are links with terrorists and Iraq and that this gives us the right to unilaterally and preemptively attack a sovereign nation. This is in violation of our constitution, decency, morals, and any remaining ethics. Wolfowitz offered no proof of any kind or type for his assertion. The fact is that no person to this date has ever produced one single shred of evidence to link Iraq with any terrorism anywhere. Islamic fundamentalism is allied with a Saudi Arabian sect called Wahabbism; this Islamic fundamentalist movement is illegal in Iraq being outlawed by the present government. In fact the long lasting war between Iraq and Iran was a result of Iraq's governments opposition to fundamentalist Islam. Saddam runs a secular government, which is diametrically opposed, to any and all fundamentalist Islamic movement, of which all Islamic terrorists are affiliated with. According to Iraq's law the death penalty may be administered for supporting or teaching Wahabbism.

2) In the second paragraph Wolfowitz claims that Iraq has a viable nuclear weapons program. This statement is a lie and Wolfowitz knows it. The Chief UN nuclear weapons inspector stated; "There is no evidence of any nuclear weapons program in Iraq". Our Secretary of State, President and Mr. Wolfowitz have repeatedly stated even after weapons inspectors denied the fact, that Iraq was using specialized aluminum tubes for centrifugal uranium enrichment processes. This was proven to be false. Then the administration produced forged documents stating that Iraq was importing uranium from an African country; all documents were proven by the UN investigating committee to be forged fabrications.

3) Wolfowitz then attempts to draw a parallel between South African nuclear disarmament and the presently claimed by him failed process in Iraq. South Africa produced nuclear weapons jointly with the state of Israel, and tested nuclear devices in the 80's in the Indian Ocean. The fact that Israel is the largest holder of "weapons of mass destruction" in the entire Middle East (well over 400 nuclear warheads) is blatantly omitted from the article. As is the fact that South Africa sold their entire nuclear enrichment plant, lock stock and barrel, to the Communist Peoples Republic of China with our government's tacit approval. Furthermore while the South African's were given four year to dispose of their "weapons of mass destruction" Iraq was given less than one year from the date of the last UN resolution.

4) Comparisons with France and California to Iraq are not unlike a comparison between marbles and basketballs. The comparison is by fact of topography, population, religion, social makeup, and technology irrelevant. 80% of Iraq is uninhabitable desert. Not unlike the Balkans Iraq consists of numerous ethnic and socially divergent factors.

5) Its one thing to claim "brazen omissions" in the report submitted by Iraq to the UN, however some factual omissions listed would be more than helpful. Unsubstantiated statements are not permitted in a court of law and neither should they be expressed in an article.

6) We have heard the assertion of tons of bacteriological and chemical agents as part of Iraq's inventory; well what of it? The fact that some large portion of these were manufactured in our own Fort Detrick and sold to the Iraq government is well documented. If we were to draw up a list of countries having such agents the list would be topped by our selves and followed by at least 50 nations. Furthermore if as Wolfowitz claims Saddam is a follower of Stalin (I have not heard of any socialist or communist governance in Iraq) then why are we ignoring, N. Korea, and Zimbabwe, both of which have governments substantially worse than anything Saddam even dreamt of.

7) Iraq did permit the over flight undisrupted by American U2's as well as drones. Furthermore they up to almost the date of our invasion destroyed one of their principal missile systems. These missiles with a range of about 170 miles if fired from the center of Iraq could not shoot outside the country, why should they be prohibited from having them, especially in light of the fact that Israel has attacked strategic targets inside of Iraq on numerous occasions, and without a declaration of war.

I do not want to give the impression that I think in any way that Saddam is a nice guy or that his regime has any merit. That however is no reason to attack that country in the absence of any proof that they had any intensions to bring harm to America. We are not the police force of the world, and if we spent more time minding our own business than that of others we would not be the terrorist targets that we have made ourselves to be. It is my contention that all the terrorism against America is seated in our stilted one-sided Middle East policy presided over by the Chickenhawks at the white house and state department which is a product of the CFR where Wolfowitz gave the speech, and where he is a member, on which this rubbish was based.

Briefly it would also be interesting to expose this ridiculous coalition that the Chickenhawks and Mr. Wolfowitz continuously blather about:

Britain OK Denmark no troops just verbal support
Spain no troops just verbal support
Albania Kidding?
Italy ditto
Bulgaria ditto
Portugal ditto
Estonia ditto
Hungary ditto
Latvia ditto
The Czech Republic ditto
Lithuania ditto
Poland 200 men
Macedonia European terrorist central
Slovakia kidding?
Slovenia kidding?

And by the way George that's not 40 nations not 20 nations its 18 and with the removal of America, England, Spain and Portugal, with a combined military power is 1/8th that of Pakistan.
